Hello, everyone! Today, I’m honored to bring you three ways to help align the year ahead featuring the lovely and inspiring Kerry Geocaris. I’m lucky enough to live in the same city as Kerry and know from experience she is kind, warm and always working to make life better. Check out her free ebooks and website at the end of the post.
Here are Kerry’s tips.
3 Ways to Align the Year Ahead (and Get Closer to Achieving Your Goals!)
1. Make sure your thoughts and actions are in alignment.
To feel better we need to think good thoughts and support those thoughts with positive actions. For example, if you are on the treadmill thinking about how stressful life is or how much weight you want to lose, you are not going to feel better.
Healthier thoughts would include, “I am strong. I am loving my body and taking care of myself.” Repeating mantras like “I can,” “I am enough,” and “I am healthy” will reinforce the healthy action so that you repeat in the future and think and feel better about yourself.
2. Take actions daily to support your wants and desires.
Make sure your daily to-do lists contain items you WANT to do to help bring balance in your life. Many of our daily tasks contain things we “have” to do or “should” and we neglect our passions and interests. This is when we start getting out of alignment and begin to carry resentment because we are not nurturing our desires.
Make goals that are realistic and attainable. We all have busy days but it is necessary to make time for the things we love to do. For example, I may “have” to pay my bills, do the laundry, and run errands, but I make time to move my body and nurture my passions through work, music, and play. This helps bring alignment and joy into life.
3. Align your inner self with your outer self.
Your wardrobe, home, and office space are extensions of yourself. Evaluate your space and clothing and ask “does this bring me joy?” “Is this really me?” If we wear things or decorate in ways we think we “should” than we are living our life according to others and will be in conflict.
Declutter and design yourself to reflect who you really are.
- Melissa recommends creating Pinterest boards. Here’s her fashion & home office inspiration.
Kerry: We often follow trends, social pressure, or how we were raised and many live in conflict without realizing it.
A great place to start is by making a style board for your wardrobe and home and office spaces that reflect who you are and what you like. Then the book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo will help you clear the clutter and get rid of all that doesn’t serve or represent you.
Many of us are holding onto items that are no longer in alignment with who we truly are. We feel like we “should” keep it or “should” wear it and hanging onto it only prevents us from being authentic and moving forward in life.
After you minimize, you can then start to create your style and space using your boards as inspiration. Sometimes all you need is a pop of color and a few items to make you feel aligned.
