This month’s #ArrowProject is hygge, or enjoying life’s little pleasures.
My goal is to notice the beauty around me in everyday moments, and let that inspire my work. Some ideas so far include less screen time, more time with the people I love, and overall trying to focus on what I find truly lovely and good.
As for writing, incorporating all of the senses in lush, simple ways has been a focus in my latest work-in-progress. Here’s a sentence from chapter one of my contemporary YA ghost story:
Thursday, just a handful of us cool kids hanging out in the basement with low ceilings and low light. We were there for mild debauchery and didn’t mind that the walls had partially disintegrated or rotted or something, reminiscent of catacombs, it all smelling faintly of swamp and smoke.
