Since this is my last blog post until the New Year, I wanted to leave with you with a story.
On Sunday, I drove to an all-day author event. My first official signing. It was raining. Fog layered up from the ground, making the drive meditative and focused.
I got to thinking about how all kinds of art amazes me, not just books. My whole life, I’ve been enamored by expression in film, music, design, words. You start with something raw–one shot, one chord, a room, a word–and turn it into something that can capture an audience, make people dance, make a home, tell a story.
And this feeling seeped in, as it does now and then, of how lucky I am to be following my dreams–my art–which introduces me to all sorts of incredibly talented people who are doing things that produce awe and joy. I mean after all the twists and turns in life, somehow… this is my life. How lucky can a girl get?
The feeling built, soft as fog, for the husband who loves me enough to spend ten hours making mini bow & arrows sets for my pre-order giveaway, for the people I know with seriously good hearts, and for life’s simple pleasures, like being an author on the road, lost in her thoughts when it’s raining; overwhelmed and grateful.
Wishing you a safe and happy holiday.
xo,
Melissa
