Truthfully and without apology, I read to fall asleep.
This is one of my favorite times of the day–my treat–when it’s just me and the book I fell asleep with last night.
Because of this routine, I read books slowly, but often. I read to escape whatever happened in life. I read to relax, and it works.
The next time you need to relax, read a book. Summer’s the perfect time.
Here is what’s on my shelf for inspiration:
Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver
If you want: “… a gripping story about two sisters inexorably altered by a terrible accident.” This book is such a beautiful work of art. That cover! Wow! It gets even better from there. Pick it up and fall in.
Mosquitoland by David Arnold
If you want: “Top-notch” —USA Today
“Illuminating” —Washington Post
“A breath of fresh air” —Entertainment Weekly
“Memorable” —People
I appreciated this book for the portrayal of the stepmom. The main character, Mim, was lovable and real.
Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry
If you want: A love story about two people “so wrong for each other…and yet so right.” McGarry’s narrative keeps the pages turning. She writes edgy, damaged characters who you can’t help but root for!
To Read September 1, 2015:
Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon
If you want: A fast read you can’t put down! I finished an advanced reader copy of this book in three days. Preorder it for when the kids go back to school. Then get ready to enjoy it quickly.
And of course, you should read Arrows in 209 days and counting …
